The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced that this year’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) will proceed as scheduled across the country including in conflict-prone areas.

Speaking at a press conference on August 4, GES Director Professor Ernest Kofi Davis assured the public that security measures have been put in place to protect candidates in volatile regions such as Bawku, Savelugu, Nalerigu, and Nkwanta.

“We are working collaboratively with the security agencies to ensure that we have incident-free examinations,” he said.

Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis, D-G of the Ghana Education Service (GES).

Prof Davis said, “The students are going to stay in school, they are not going to commute, so there wouldn’t be any day students. All of them will be kept in the school under the security protection until they finish the exams, those who will need escort will be escorted back to the safe communities they came from.”

Preparations for the 2025 WASSCE are complete, with exams scheduled to begin on August 5 and end on September 19.

Professor Davis also issued a stern warning to invigilators and supervisors, emphasizing that anyone caught engaging in examination malpractice will be dismissed.

“We know the effect of exam malpractice on the integrity of the certificates. Information for them is that they will be dismissed if they are caught, because the GES Council has given the GES the power to dismiss invigilators and supervisors who are caught,”he cautioned.

This year, over 400,000 candidates are expected to sit for the exams at 701 centers nationwide.
