Isaac Adongo, the Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, has shared fond memories of his friend and colleague, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, the late lawmaker for Tamale Central.

He describes Dr. Mohammed as a man of passion in his service to the nation, highlighting their cordial relationship and Dr. Mohammed’s dedication to his constituents.

According to Adongo, the late Minister of Environment, Science, and Technology, was someone he always relied on during Muslim festivities to share with his constituents.

On Thursday, August 7, 2025, the Bolgatanga Central legislator signed the book of condolence at the family house of his former colleague in Tamale, describing Dr. Murtala Mohammed’s service to the nation as invaluable.

“What I will remember him for is the passion with which he served our country,” he stated.

“He loved his constituents and most of the time if I needed to buy something for my constituents, particularly in salah periods, the best person to go to Murtala. He knew everybody here who sold sugar or rice and things like that, and that was because he had developed the relationship over the years,” he explained.

Adongo served on the Trades and Industry Committee of Parliament with Murtala, and also on the party front, served on the Trades and Industry committee during the draft of the NDC 2024 manifesto.

Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed was among eight persons who died in a military helicopter crash around Adansi Akrofuom, near Obuasi in the Ashanti region.

He was on the flight with seven other persons, including three crew members who were en route to Obuasi to launch the Cooperative Mining Initiative, aimed at promoting environmentally friendly mining practices in local communities.

But according to a statement issued by the Ghana Armed Forces, the helicopter went off radar. The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, later confirmed the passing of the eight people who were on board the flight.

Also among those who died were Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, the Minister of Defence.

The others are former Ashanti Region Minister, Dr Samuel Sarpong, Deputy National Security Coordinator, Alhaji Muniru Ibrahim, and Deputy Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Samuel Aboagye.

The rest are Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu and Sergeant Ernest Addo.
