Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, Isaac Adongo, has described the late Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, as an honest person who frowned on corruption and will never take what does not belong to him.

Signing the book of condolence at the family house of his former colleague, Murtala Mohammed, in Tamale Thursday, August 7, 2025, Isaac Adongo expressed optimism that the late MP and friend will be with the Lord following his demise.

“He himself was a very religious person. He spoke about death many times and anytime we were in difficulty, he’ll reach out to the Qur’an and so we believe that he was prepared to meet his Maker and he is in a very good place as we speak. That is something that we believe in,” he stated.

On his parliamentary duties, he said Parliament will miss Murtala’s intellectual contribution to debates and bills.

Adongo served on the Trades and Industry Committee of Parliament with Murtala, and also on the party front, served on the Trades and Industry committee during the draft of the NDC 2024 manifesto.

Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed was among eight persons who died in a military helicopter crash around Adansi Akrofuom, near Obuasi in the Ashanti region.

He was on the flight with seven other persons, including three crew members who were en route to Obuasi to launch the Cooperative Mining Initiative, aimed at promoting environmentally friendly mining practices in local communities.

But according to a statement issued by the Ghana Armed Forces, the helicopter went off radar. The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, later confirmed the passing of the eight people who were on board the flight.

Also among those who died were Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, the Minister of Defence.

The others are former Ashanti Region Minister, Dr Samuel Sarpong, Deputy National Security Coordinator, Alhaji Muniru Ibrahim, and Deputy Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Samuel Aboagye.

The rest are Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu and Sergeant Ernest Addo.
