The Government of India has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic helicopter crash in Ghana that claimed the lives of several high-ranking officials, including Ghana’s Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, and Environment, Science, and Technology Minister, Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed.

The accident occurred on August 6, 2025, at Sikaman-Brofoyedu in the Ashanti Region, when a Ghanaian Air Force helicopter went down during an official mission.

The incident has sent shockwaves across Ghana and drawn condolences from the international community.

In an official statement, the Indian government extended its heartfelt sympathies to the Government and people of Ghana, as well as the families of the victims.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the Government and the people of the Republic of Ghana during this time of national mourning. Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families and all those affected by this unfortunate incident. May the departed souls rest in eternal peace,” the statement read.

The tragic crash has prompted an outpouring of grief from global leaders, with several countries and organizations offering support to Ghana. The incident has also raised concerns over aviation safety in the region, with calls for thorough investigations.

Ghana has declared 3-day national mourning, with flags flying at half-mast in honor of the deceased officials.

The late ministers were key figures in Ghana’s governance, and their loss is seen as a major blow to the nation’s political and security leadership.

As Ghana grapples with this tragedy, the international community, including India, stands in solidarity with the West African nation.
