A multiple number of shops at Nogora junction near the Ho Technical University College, have been destroyed in a fire incident that occurred on the evening of August 13.

The fire incident which began few minutes before 6pm, spread through a popular pub, known as Nogora, two boutiques and some other shops on the stretch, causing significant loss to the owners.

Though the cause of the inferno is not immediately known, residents believe the blaze might have been sparked by an electrical fault.

“We were in the pub doing some work when one of the sales girls raised the fire alarm. We reached out for the fire extinguisher but the flames were too intense so we had to call the fire service,” an eyewitness told 3news.

Raging fire

“There was no gas or cooking at the time so we suspect it’s an electrical fault that caused the fire,” he added.

One distraught shop-owner said items lost to the inferno is worth over GHS1m.

“The lights have been on and off all day and that has been the situation in this particular area -and I suspect it is electrical fault somewhere,” the shop-owner told 3news.

The Ho Municipal Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service, Div. Fire Officer Grade II, Sedem Tay, told the media that his men spent over two hours to douse the fire.
