The Asutifi Police Command has arrested five individuals who were caught smoking marijuana, an illicit substance in the country, and set their makeshift structures ablaze.

The operation, led by the the newly appointed Police Commander, Superintendent Opoku Yamoah, comes few weeks after a similar one that got some commercial sex workers arrested at Ahafo Kenyasi.

According to Supt. Yamoah, the Ahafo Acherensua operation followed several complaints about the district’s escalating crime rate, the majority of which is committed by pot smokers.

So, in an effort to quell the crime in the district, he dispatched twenty-one police officers to ambush “wee bases” in Acherensua, Ahafo Region, arresting five wee smokers and burning four bases.

The suspects arrested during the operation include Derrick Ntora, 18 years, a worker; Samuel Agbeko, 19, a labourer; Sumaila Sulemana, 20 years, illegal miner; Adams Fuseini, 30 years, an illegal miner, and Fataw Dokoli, 20 a year-old tricycle rider.

The court remanded them and granted them bail on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, and ordered them to reappear on August 26, 2025.

Commander Yamoah’s two key operations, which resulted in the arrest of 16 commercial sex workers and 5 wee smokers, have earned him a lot of commendation from chiefs and the residents, particularly his fast-track court processing of victims to avoid political and other stakeholders’ intervention.

This has restored some sanity to the district and deterred potential criminals from carrying out their activities.
