General Secretary of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), Dr. David Tenkorang-Twum has dismissed claims that the Association blindly defends its members when they go against professional ethics.
Some healthcare providers have come under strong criticism by the general public over unprofessional conduct in some facilities, with concerns raised about patient care and professional responsibility.
But speaking to Sunrise on 3FM 92.7, Dr Tentorang-Twum stated that the Association is committed to upholding discipline and accountability among its members.
“It’s not the case that we always defend our nurses and midwives. Some have had their certificates revoked, and others suspended,” he clarified.
Dr. Tenkorang-Twum also noted “I’ll be the first person to condemn any nurse and bring such a person to a disciplinary hearing if they misconduct themselves in undermining the healthcare of patients.”
Dr Tentorang-Twum, however, revealed that GRNMA has taken proactive steps to address gaps in professionalism within the nursing and midwifery fraternity.
“We have rolled out a series of training and mentorship programs to bring some of the few bad nuts in our Association up to speed as far as professionalism is concerned,” he said.
