National Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has expressed the need to shift focus to the families of the eight persons who died in the military helicopter crash that occurred on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

He says the tragedy, which occurred, would have been reversed if it were possible, emphasising the need for the bereaved families to be prioritised in honouring those who departed through the crash.

Asiedu Nketia, speaking at the final funeral rites of the Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, one of the eight victims of the crash, said the incident was a painful national tragedy that no one could have prevented.

According to him, “if there were anything that the NDC, both in party and in government, could do to reverse this tragedy, it could have been done. But unfortunately, nothing we do can bring back Honourable Limuna.”

He explained that the need to shift focus to the bereaved is the reason the government has established a fund to support all those who depended on the deceased prior to their passing.

“What we must concentrate on is to make sure the family he left behind is catered for… That is why His Excellency the President directed the establishment of a fund to take care of the families of the victims of the August 6 disaster,” he added.

He expressed the need to instill unity, admonishing the party members and the general public to maintain the solidarity witnessed during the funeral.

The final funeral rites for Limuna, who was also the traditional ruler Sandape-Wura Buwulonso, drew thousands of mourners, including chiefs, government officials, political leaders, and diplomats, to Damongo, the Savannah regional capital on Sunday, August 24, 2025.

The August 6 crash, which occurred in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, claimed the lives of top government officials, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister, Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, NDC Vice Chairman, Samuel Sarpong, former parliamentary candidate, Samuel Aboagye, and three military officers who were operating the aircraft.
