The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced that its National Youth Wing will stage a protest on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, over what it describes as “state sponsored police harassment” against some of its members.
The announcement was made by the party’s National Youth Organiser, Salam Mustapha, in a Facebook post on Friday, September 12 shortly after Bono Regional Chairman of the NPP, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC was remanded into police custody again, this time for one week.
Salam Mustapha wrote on Facebook: “Tuesday, 23rd September, the National Youth Wing will organise a demo against the state-sponsored police harassment. From Obra Spot to police headquarters. 6 a.m. sharp!”
The party said it will petition the Inspector General of Police (IGP) on “politically-tainted arrests going on and National Security harassment of NPP members.”
The court on Friday, September 12 remanded Abronye into police custody for two weeks to allow prosecutors more time to conduct investigations.
Abronye DC was first arrested on Monday, September 8, over what police described as “offensive conduct conducive to the breach of public peace.” He has since remained in custody and set to reappear in court on September 19.

Meanwhile, the NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi, is also under investigation for allegations of fraud, causing financial loss to the state, and money laundering.
Other party affiliates have also reportedly been arrested over various issues.
