A delegation from the palace of the Sumankwahene have been performing traditional rituals to prevent rainfall as the four-day funeral rites of the late Asantehemaa start in Manhyia Palace.

The delegations were seen at the funeral grounds, invoking spiritual powers to ward off rain clouds that threatened to disrupt proceedings.

Our news team at the funeral ground can confirm the palace envoy positioned themselves at various cloudy spots within the area, chanting incantations and using ritual objects in what appeared to be appeals to the gods for clear skies.

They were seen moving from one location to another, performing the rites and making pronouncements aimed at ensuring uninterrupted ceremonies for the revered Asantehemaa.

Sources close to our news team at the ground from Sumankwahene’s team indicated that, such interventions are considered necessary during major state funerals, where sudden rainfall could obstruct the smooth flow of activities.

With the skies darkening as the rites began, the rituals were seen as part of efforts to guarantee that the funeral is held successfully without interference from adverse weather.

Their location attracted many people to witness their activities.
