The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, has emphasised that there has not been any deviation to the recent budget estimates submitted by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in connection with the Black Stars’ remaining World Cup qualifiers.
As a result, the Minister says, the budget of an estimated $1.12 million has been forwarded to the Office of the President for approval.
“As I speak to you today,” Mr Adams, who is also the Member of Parliament for Buem Constituency said, “the final approval is still pending from the Presidency.
“But I must emphasise that the estimates submitted were consistent with the fiscal benchmarks and prudent expenditure guidelines we’ve agreed upon in earlier cycles.
“There has been no devioations.”
He was speaking to the press on Monday, September 29 when he made this known.
Per the budget, $733,000 will go into the Wednesday, October 8 qualifier against Central African Republic (CAR) in Morocco and $387,000 will cover the home game against Comoros on Sunday, October 12.
The Minister expressed gratitude to the GFA the “cooperation and maturity” shown in the process.
“These engagements are often technical and time-sensitive, and the posture of the Association throughout has reflected a shared commitment to proper governance and accountability.”
He bemoaned attempts by some to politicise the process, particularly in the presser before the Chad game.
“In fact, the players remain our key priority, and we have treated them with respect and professionalism.
“What we control, we have handled diligently and within the confines of law and protocol.”
