The Ashanti Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Kumasi has launched a formal investigation into the “unnatural death” of a 20-year-old Senegalese, Cheith Toure, whose body was discovered with several abdominal injuries.

The investigation, announced in a press release by the Ashanti Regional Police Headquarters on October 20, 2025, centers on a key individual identified as Issah, who claimed to be the deceased’s brother.

Initial police enquiries revealed a significant discrepancy in the circumstances surrounding Mr. Toure’s death. According to police, the same individual, Issah, transported the deceased to the Manhyia Government Hospital on October 16, 2025, claiming the victim had been involved in an accident.

However, further investigation at the hospital established a critical contradiction: hospital records indicate that Cheith Toure, who was brought in with “several abdominal injuries,” was in fact brought in dead. The deceased’s body has since been deposited at the Ebenezer mortuary at Tafo, Kumasi.

Background checks have identified the deceased, whose name is widely reported as Cheikh Touré in international press, as a young Senegalese footballer and goalkeeper.

The Ministry of African Integration, Foreign Affairs, and Senegalese Abroad announced on October 18, 2025, that their consular services had launched preliminary investigations. These findings suggest that Mr. Touré may have tragically fallen victim to an international network of fraud and extortionists.

Further reports indicate that the young footballer was allegedly lured to Ghana with a false promise of trials with a professional club. This fake opportunity reportedly escalated into an abduction, with the perpetrators demanding a ransom from his family which they were unable to raise.

The Senegalese Ministry has confirmed they are collaborating with Ghanaian authorities to ensure a thorough investigation.

The Police Command has assured the public that every effort is being made to thoroughly investigate the matter and “bring clarity to the circumstances surrounding Mr. Toure’s death”. The Ashanti Regional Criminal Investigations Department is urging anyone with relevant information to assist with the investigation.

Members of the public are kindly requested to contact the Regional CID, Kumasi, call the Police hotlines 18555, 191, 112, or reach out to the investigating officer on 0248483741.
