The Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association’s (GJA) Western Regional Chapter, Desmond Cudjoe, has commended the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Effia-Kwesimintsim , Abdul-Majeed Dokurugu for his decisive action regarding trading activities at the Takoradi Jubilee Park.
The park, once a key recreational center for children and adults in the metropolis and the wider region, was converted into a market in 2019 to decongest the Takoradi Market Circle during the Covid-19 pandemic.
However, all subsequent attempts to restore it to its original purpose have been unsuccessful.
Concerns over poor sanitation and other issues have since mounted, prompting the regional administration to intervene.

With the Takoradi Market Circle still under construction, authorities are now hopeful of reviving the Apremdo Market at Abenbebom, a project which has largely remained unused.
However, upon assuming office on April 16, as the MCE for Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal (EKMA) Abdul-Majeed Dokurugu, initiated a consultative stakeholders’ engagement.
This dialogue successfully convinced the traders and transport operators, who had previously resisted relocation, to formally agree on October 13 to operate from the abandoned Apremdo market and lorry terminal.

Following the relocation, the once-dormant site has been transformed into a vibrant market within the municipality.
This breakthrough has created the necessary conditions for the Jubilee Park to be restored to its original purpose.
Against this backdrop, many residents across Sekondi Takoradi and the Western Region are applauding the MCE for EKMA.

One prominent voice is that of the Western Regional Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association, Mr. Desmond Cudjoe, who endorsed the effort on his Facebook wall with the inscription:
“Abdul-Majeed Dokurugu… the MCE of our time. Continue to help make greater Sekondi-Takoradi beautiful.” He wrote.

The Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly has cleared the waste left by market vendors, barricaded the area, and begun its rehabilitation.
Meanwhile, the Apremdo market has become a thriving commercial center.
