In a move to address the growing threats of illicit drug trafficking and transnational crime, the Comptroller-General of Immigration (CGI), Mr. Samuel Basintale Amadu, has called for a strengthened multi-stakeholder approach.
He emphasised collaboration with neighboring countries and border communities. The CGI made the appeal during a courtesy call on the North East Regional Minister, Abrahim Tia, as part of his working tour of the region.
Mr. Amadu highlighted that such partnerships are crucial to making the region less attractive to criminal elements and safeguarding national security.

“The menace of illicit drug trafficking and other transnational crimes requires a collective responsibility,” Mr. Amadu stated, underscoring the need for a unified strategy.
As a key step towards enhancing operational efficiency in this fight, the CGI appealed to the Minister to assist the Ghana Immigration Service in acquiring land for the construction of a functional Regional Headquarters.

In his response, Mr Abrahim Tia strongly condemned the recent attack on two Immigration officers at Gbintri, describing the act as “unacceptable and a threat to national peace and security.” He urged law enforcement agencies to pursue the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
The Minister reaffirmed his commitment to supporting officers on the ground, assuring them of the Regional Coordinating Council’s firm backing.
Mr Tia received the CGI in the company of all Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) within the region, signaling a consolidated regional effort to tackle the security challenges.
