An 18-year-old girl has been crushed to death after a speeding towing truck crashed into her home at Kade Adankrono community in the Kwaebibirem municipality of the Eastern region.
The incident occurred when the driver of an unregistered Rhino truck, reportedly racing alongside a Lexus vehicle, lost control of the steering wheel.
He veered off the road, tearing through a goat coop before plowing into the house where the young girl was.
Grief and disbelief have engulfed residents who describe the accident as devastating, with debris scattered and family members inconsolable.
“We were preparing for the funeral when we heard a vehicle from the Pankese direction lost control and veered into this compound and crashed the young lady.
“One other younger person was under the car. The medical personnel at St Dominic Hospital, Akwatia, gave the younger child who survived first aid and have asked that we return on Monday.
“The deceased has her child at the hospital. She returned home to gather money to go care for her child. She has just alighted from a pragya to engage her own father for money,” a distraught relative recounted.
“We heard a loud bang and ran out by the time we got there, she was gone,” another added.

The body of the deceased is at the St. Dominic Government Hospital at Akwatia for autopsy and preservation.
Many have blamed the crash on reckless driving, saying that drivers on the stretch of road have become notorious for overspeeding
The driver is said to have fled the scene shortly after the incident, allegedly out of fear of being attacked by enraged onlookers
The police intervened to keep calm and avoid the enraged residents from destroying the towing truck.
They have launched investigations into the tragedy, while residents are calling for justice to prevent similar accidents in the future.
