The five individuals arrested in connection with the murder of the Akwamuhene of Tanoso in the Bono East Region have been formally remanded into police custody.

The suspects appeared before the District Court, Tuobodom, where His Honour Kojo Frimpong Manso presided over the proceedings.

In line with standard practice for preliminary hearings on serious offenses, the suspects’ plea was not taken. The court ordered the five to be remanded into police custody to allow investigators more time to gather evidence.

The Ghana Police Service’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID), which announced the arrests on Thursday, November 13, 2025, confirmed the identities of the accused: Issifu Addae (alias Akwasi Addae), Stephen Gyamfi, Augustine Arhinful, Owusu Bempah, and Martha Mansah.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the murder is rooted in a protracted chieftaincy dispute. Investigators noted that the deceased chief had been destooled prior to his death but had allegedly rejected the decision, leading to ongoing legal and familial conflicts.

While five individuals are now in custody, four additional individuals have been declared persons of interest, and the police are intensifying their efforts to track them down and bring them in for questioning.

The five individuals are scheduled to reappear before court on the 25th of November, 2025.
