An Accra Circuit Court has charged a 45-year-old businesswoman, Millicent Asamoah Ampofo, with unlawful control of a narcotic drug.

This was after she was apprehended for allegedly producing and selling drinks believed to be mixed with cannabis at Taifa, a suburb of Accra.

The Court presided over by Kwabena Kodua Obiri-Yeboah, on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, did not take the suspect’s plea since the seized items had been sent to the Police Forensic Science Laboratory for analysis.

She was granted a GH¢50,000 bail with one surety and directed the prosecution to file all relevant disclosures.

Although the prosecution did not object to bail, the court requested that strict conditions be imposed to ensure Millicent’s presence in court.

Brief facts

According to the prosecution, the accused was arrested on November 5, 2025, during an intelligence-led operation conducted by officers from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at her drinking spot.

A search carried out on the premises revealed 47 plastic bottles of sobolo, 20 bottles of mango drink, 23 bottles containing unidentified liquid substances, and a blue mini drum filled with a liquid.

The police also found two plastic containers of dried plant material, two rubber bags with powdery substances, and 180 pieces of hard brown toffees. All the seized items are suspected to contain cannabis.

During interrogation, Millicent reportedly admitted that all the items belonged to her and disclosed that she got her supplies from a man known only as “Richard”, who is said to be based in Accra.

She further told investigators that she produced and sold the drinks and toffees herself, pricing the sobolo at GH¢5 per bottle, the mango drink at GH¢20, and each toffee at GH¢5.

Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to apprehend the said Richard.
