The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has provided an update on the injured victims of the El-Wak Stadium stampede on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.
The GAF says three out of the five victims who were in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) have shown improvement in their conditions and have been moved to another ward.
Acting Director-General of the Department of Public Relations of the GAF, Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, gave the details in a Citi FM interview on Monday, November 17, 2025, saying there has generally been an improvement in the conditions of all those who got injured.
Six persons lost their lives during the stampede, all being female potential recruits to the Ghana Armed Forces.
According to Captain Arhin, the medical team at the 37 Military Hospital have been doing their best to ensure the 29 victims admitted at the facility are stabilised to prevent further deaths.
“The injured are doing well, they are at the hospital, and they are receiving the best of care. On the day of the incident, we had five people in the ICU. As we speak, three of them are doing well and they have been moved to another ward,” she stated.
Meanwhile, 16 persons are still on admission, receiving continuous treatment and monitoring, while some have also been treated and discharged.
“On the day of the incident, 29 people were brought to the hospital. As we speak now, we have about 16 currently there. Others are all receiving care, some have been discharged, and they have gone home, and they are getting the best of care. We are praying that we do not lose another life, so we are giving them all the best that we can,” she disclosed.
She reaffirmed that the government, together with the 37 Military Hospital, is taking care of all the costs of the treatment for the victims, in order to relieve their families of financial burdens.
“37 Hospital is taking the full bill of anybody that comes there with any form of accident related to the stampede, and for that matter, the government,” she assured.
The stampede occurred after thousands of young Ghanaians surged into the El-Wak Sports Stadium in an attempt to take part in the military recruitment process on Wednesday, November 12.
The massive crowd and intense struggle at entry points led to chaos, resulting in multiple injuries and fatalities.
