Kofi Benteh Afful, the Sefwi Wiawso legislator, says the Majority caucus is being cautious to avoid suffering the same fate as the Minority in the next election.
“In this Minority one corner you’re enjoying, we would not want to be like you and so we are treading cautiously,” he said during the debate on the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy of the government in Parliament on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.
The Statement, presented to the House on Thursday, November 13, 2025, by Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, projects a 4.8 per cent economic growth.
Debating the Statement, the Minority downplayed its impact on the economy, saying the Minister didn’t present real growth that will better the lives of the citizenry.
Mr. Afful, who had previously slammed the Minority for occupying “one corner” of the chamber due to their economic mismanagement, praised Finance Minister Dr. Ato Forson, highlighting his credentials as an accountant and finance expert.
“The Minister for Finance, not only is he a Finance expert, he is also an accountant and has taught us how to prudently manage an economy,” he stated.
The Sefwi Wiawso legislator further praised the Finance Minister’s calm demeanor, saying he’s managing the economy cautiously to avoid fleeing the country after office.
“That is why he is not running his mouth. He doesn’t want to run away. He doesn’t want to be a fugitive from justice. He wants to be able to come home and attend funerals of relatives, and that is why he has given us this budget.”
He asserted that the Minority fears they will become extinct once the budget’s content is executed, the reason they want to discredit its contents.
“Their only fear is that, by the time the programmes in this budget have been executed, they will become extinct. That is why they are doing everything to comment and say this budget cannot transform us. However, the budget speaks for itself.”
