The Government Statistician, Dr Alhassan Iddrisu, has announced that the provisional Monthly Indicator of Economic Growth (MIEG) for August 2025 is 5.1% for August 2025, up from 4.9% in August 2024.

This means economic activities expanded by 5.1% in August 2025 compared to the expansion of 4.9% recorded in the same period in 2024, Dr Alhassan Iddrisu said at a press conference in Accra on Thursday, November 20.

He also stated that agriculture showed strong growth of 7.4% in August 2025, compared to 2.3% in August 2024.

This means that the Agriculture sector expanded by 7.4% in August 2025, higher than the growth of 2.3% recorded in the same period in 2024, he said.  The sector contributed 27.3% to the 5.1% growth in economic activities, he added.

Industry contracted by 1.8% in August 2025, compared to an expansion of 9.1% in August 2024.

This contraction is an improvement from the contraction of 3.1% in July 2025. The contraction in the industry sector is an indication that the industry is experiencing a reduction in activity, Dr Alhassan Iddrisu said.

“Industry’s contribution was a drag on the 5.1% growth in August 2025 by 12.2%,” he said.

Services expanded by 9.6% in August 2025, up from 2.6% in August 2024. ▪ This indicates continued strong performance in the services sector, driven mainly by ICT and Education sub-sectors. The sector contributed 80% to the 5.1% growth in August 2025.

The MIEG for July 2025 has been revised to 3.7%, down from the provisional 4.5% estimate reported on 16th October.  This revision is due to revised data received from data producers.
