Think tank Election Watch Ghana is calling on the Election Security Taskforce of the Ghana Police Service to take an interest in the upcoming flagbearer election of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to the think tank, the run-up to the primary and the exercise itself should not be taken as a party affair but a national project that requires enduring peace, security and stability.
In a statement issued on Monday, November 24, 2025, the think tank raised concerns over the campaign trend of the flagbearer aspirants where messages are marked by ethnocentric remarks and personal attacks.
“Comments by some aspirants linking leadership credentials to ethnic backgrounds risk deepening divisions and contradicting the party’s message of unity,” the statement observed.
“There’s increased focus on mobilizing supporters through divisive narratives rather than debates on governance, economic policies, or innovation.
“Such trends threaten to make the January primary one of the most tensed and security-challenged election in the NPP’s history.”
It, therefore, urged all the five aspirants and their supporters as well as party leadership “to refrain from rhetoric that could escalate tensions or undermine national cohesion.”
“Political contest should elevate Ghana’s democratic values, not erode them.”
