Parliament has approved a sum of GHC5.3billion (GHC5,378,458,359.00) for the Roads and Highways Ministry for its activities in 2026.

Out of the approved sum, GHC4.4 billion (GHC4,447,425,449.00) is from Government of Ghana sources, GHC20 million (GHC20,232,910.00) is from Internally Generated Fund sources and the remaining GHC910 million (GHC910,800,000.00) is expected to be received from Development partners.

The budget estimate for the Ministry was approved on Tuesday, December 2, 2025.

The Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, presented the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy to Parliament on November 13, 2025.

The overall total allocation for road infrastructure is part of the government’s “Big Push” infrastructure program, a multi-year initiative to boost the road sector.

In the budget key allocations for roads include:

GH¢30 billion for the entire Big Push Infrastructure Programme, of which a significant portion is dedicated to strategic roads and bridges.

GH¢5.38 billion specifically allocated to the Ministry of Roads and Highways for its general operations and construction projects.

GH¢828 million for the construction of 1,000km of agricultural enclave roads to improve food security and reduce transport costs.

GH¢3.0 billion allocated to the Ghana Road Maintenance Trust Fund (which will replace the existing Road Fund) to ensure roads in all constituencies are motorable.

The government aims to significantly upgrade Ghana’s road network, including major projects like the Accra-Kumasi Expressway and various regional link roads, with the goal of improving connectivity and stimulating economic activity across the country.
