Pius Enam Hadzide, a spokesperson for New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful Dr. Bryan Acheampong, has expressed concern about the increasing tension brewing between factions supporting former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.
He argues that the factions’ public disparaging comments are detrimental to the party’s internal cohesion and political fortunes.
Mr. Hadzide believes that this friction places Dr. Bryan Acheampong in a stronger position to lead the party into the 2028 general elections. He contends that neither of the two leading contenders would be able to unite the party after the primaries to secure political power.
“The tension, friction, heat…in the party, is as a result of these two people and their supporters. Some are even plain insults,” Hadzide noted.
“The fear some of us have is that, should any of them win this primary, it would be very difficult to unite the party. We witnessed that in 2023 leading to the 2024 election. We cannot afford its recurrence,” he added.
He emphasized that Dr. Bryan Acheampong and his team have maintained a highly decent campaign, impressing upon delegates his capability to unite and lead the party to victory.
“…for now, the party needs a unifier, and that unifier is Dr Bryan Acheampong,” Hadzide stated, casting doubt on the ability of the other camps to reconcile post-contest.
“Are we sure that the other camp will willingly come on board? Some of us doubt that very much,” he stressed.
Dr. Bryan Acheampong is currently on a campaign tour in the Western Region, seeking to consolidate delegates’ support as the party’s internal dynamics continue to evolve.
