Black Stars Head Coach Otto Addo has targeted a win in his side’s opening match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup to stand a brighter chance of making it to the next stage.
Ghana were on Friday, December 5 drawn in Group L together with England, Croatia and Panama at a ceremony held in the United States of America (USA).
The Black Stars will play Panama on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 in their opening Group L game before taking on the two European nations in the group.
Reacting to the outcome of the draw, Otto Addo said though the target is to win every match, starting well is more important.
“We want to win every match and this is for sure,” he remarked.
“And like I said, once we get a good start, then anything is possible. On a good day, I know we can beat anyone.”
Otto Addo, however, urged cautious optimism with the Panama game as he says complacency can cost his team.
“I know also we can lose against all those teams, also to Panama, if we underrate them. So we have to prepare well.”
Ghana will be heading to their fifth FIFA World Cup.
It will be the first time since 2010 that Ghana will face teams they have not played before in the group of the World Cup.
