CEO of the National Petroleum Authority, Godwin Edudzi Tameklo has said that the call to abolish the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) is a political trap.

He says he prays that President Mahama will not fall for this trap.

He argues that the OSP can remain but if the occupants are established to have abused the office anyone can petition for actions to be taken.

“I pray President Mahama doesn’t fall into the political trap of scrapping the OSP,” he said on the Key Points on Tv3 Saturday December 6.

On the arrest of Martin Kpebu,  Edudzi Tameklo, believes that the way and manner the Office of the Special Prosecutor handled the situation could have been done with a little bit of tact.

Eduzdi made the point that it is normal for anyone to be at the wrong side of the law at any time however in the specific case of Kpebu, the OSP could have been tactful.

” The process should have been handled with a bit of tact,” he said.

Also commenting on the same show, a lawyer, Kofi Bentil said if the persons occupying the Office of the Special Prosecutor  are inept, they should be removed, not to close down the entire institution.

Bentil made the point that the OSP has not failed so far, it’s a work in progress.

“This country needs the OSP, if we don’t want the people there we should remove them. The OSP has not failed, it’s a work in progress, it is not unconstitutional,” Bentil also said on the Key Points on Tv3 Saturday December 6.

On the arrest of Martin Kpebu, Kofi Bentil said that the OSP did not have the power to arrest Kpebu.

“They didn’t have any jurisdiction to arrest Kpebu.

“If you dont have the skin to take criticism don’t take up public office. Even if he insults you it is not a crime, you can sue him,” he said.

Kpebu, also a lawyer,  said that whenever a person is arrested,  he should be allowed to call his family to inform them.

He recounted that when he was arrested by the Office of the Special Prosecutor,  he was not allowed to even call any member of his family to inform them.

This situation is wrong and should not happen again, he said.

“It was rdiculous  that Kissi Agyebeng is showing me where power lies. if kisi thinks i have defamed him he shouod sue me

“If you arrested someone let him call his family, we need law reform,” he said on the Key Points on Tv3 Saturday December 6.

Also speaking on the same show, another lawyer, Kofi Bentil said that the OPS did nor have the power to arrest Kpebu.

“They didn’t have any jurisdiction to arrest Kpebu.

“If you don’t have the skin to take criticism don’t take up public office. Even if he insults you, it is not a crime, you can sue him,” he said.
