The Vice President, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, on Wednesday December 10, chaired the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee meeting in Accra, as part of efforts to drive the government’s decentralization agenda.
The meeting was aimed to review progress and address challenges in implementing the National Decentralisation Policy and Strategy (2026-2030).
During the meeting, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang highlighted the government’s commitment to deepening local governance, emphasizing the need for comprehensive reforms in health and education sectors.
She said despite significant achievements between 2010 and 2016, key reforms remain incomplete, affecting service delivery and public trust.
A new policy and strategy document for 2026-2030 was presented, outlining six key areas: political, administrative, fiscal, economic, and popular participation.

The Vice President said Successful implementation requires collective ownership, strong political backing, and sectoral alignment.
She stressed the need to ensure predictable fiscal transfers, alignment, and strengthen local revenue systems to support the implementation of the decentralization policy and strategy as well as integrate the implementation of the decentralization policy and strategy into the overall national planning process and harmonize planning systems.
Professor Naana Jane mentioned the need for coordinated and sustained leadership across the various sectors.
She expressed confidence in the ministers’ commitment to working closely with the Secretariat to accelerate the reforms.
Professor Naana Jane urged the ministries, departments, and agencies to recommit to their responsibilities in the decentralization process.
