As the festive season approaches, Ghana’s top security chiefs have issued a stern warning to criminals: stay off or face the full force of the nation’s security apparatus.

The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General William Agyapong, and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, say the country’s security agencies are fully prepared for any threats as millions of Ghanaians prepare for Christmas and New Year festivities.

Their assurance follows one of the largest multi-agency security deployments in recent years.

Over 700 Personnel Deployed

More than 736 personnel drawn from the Ghana Armed Forces, Police Service, Immigration Service, Prisons Service, Customs Division, and the Fire Service assembled at Black Star Square on Thursday morning for a coordinated exercise aimed at testing operational readiness.

The officers, moving in over 150 security vehicles, were grouped into five tactical units Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, and Echo and dispatched across strategic corridors leading into the capital.

Team Alpha patrolled the Kasoa stretch toward Budumburam on the Accra–Cape Coast highway.

Team Bravo headed towards the Tema–Aflao corridor.

Teams Charlie, Delta, and Echo assessed the Akosombo, Aburi, and Nsawam highways, respectively all major entry routes into Accra.

Throughout the operation, traders, commuters, and bystanders momentarily halted their activities to witness the convoy of flashing lights, armed personnel, and heavy-duty equipment. Many took out their phones to capture videos as the teams rolled through major intersections in a show of readiness and deterrence.

Security Leaders Speak

After the hours-long exercise, the IGP, Christian Tetteh Yohonor, reaffirmed that the Police Service is fully equipped and on high alert.

“The public can be assured that we are ready to confront and neutralize any form of criminal activity during the festive season,” he stated.

The CDS, Lt. Gen. William Agyapong, also emphasized that the military and all allied agencies have been preparing extensively.

“Plans to further equip our security agencies are far advanced. We remain committed to protecting every citizen during this period and beyond.”

Deputy Defence Minister Brogya Genfi added that government remains steadfast in its support for national security operations, noting that maintaining peace and safety during the holidays is a top priority.

Purpose of the Operation

The joint deployment forms part of a broader national strategy to boost public confidence, deter criminal activity, ensure that security agencies can respond swiftly to emergencies.

Officials say the exercise goes beyond a mere show of force. It signals a heightened state of vigilance as December celebrations draw near.

A Safer Christmas Ahead

With significant movement of people, increased commercial activity, and heightened social events expected in the coming weeks, authorities insist that Ghana is ready.

The multi-agency collaboration, they say, demonstrates a unified commitment to keeping the country safe so the public can enjoy a peaceful and incident-free Christmas.
