The Ghana Police Service has deployed armoured vehicles and additional personnel to Nkwanta in the Oti Region following a resurgence of violent attacks in the area.
According to a statement issued from the Regional Headquarters in Dambai on March 26, 2026, the deployment was carried out by the Inspector-General of Police to strengthen security and restore calm after the latest incidents.
The statement revealed that five bodies; three males and two females have been retrieved from two separate locations in the Nkwanta South Municipality.
The recovery operation was conducted through a joint effort involving the Police, the Ghana Armed Forces, the BNI, Defence Intelligence, and the GNFS.
Authorities say investigations have commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the attacks and to identify and prosecute those responsible.
Residents of Nkwanta and surrounding communities have been urged to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information to support ongoing investigations. The police also cautioned the public against the spread of misinformation and acts that could inflame tensions.
The Service reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring safety and maintaining law and order in the affected areas as efforts continue to stabilise the situation.
