More than 100 members of the Ghana Mine Workers’ Union (GMWU) on December 16 picketed the premises of BCM Company Limited, demanding the payment of their end-of-contract benefits, which they say have remained unpaid for the past ten months.
The Union described the situation as an unfair labour practice and issued a stern ultimatum to the company’s management, warning of intensified industrial action if the matter is not resolved.
According to the GMWU, BCM has until Friday, December 19, 2025, to settle all outstanding benefits.
Speaking to the media at the premises of BCM Ghana Limited in Accra, the General Secretary of the Union, Abdul-Moomin Gbana, said the affected workers would not back down until their legitimate entitlements are fully paid.

“Our members have waited patiently for ten months. This is unacceptable, and we are prepared to escalate our actions if management fails to do the right thing,” he said.
Mr Gbana stressed that the payment of benefits is a legal obligation of the employer and not a matter for negotiation.
“This is an employer responsibility. Once the laws are clear and the agreement we entered into is clear, what we are going to do is to demand and demand and demand until they comply fully with the agreement,” he stated.
He added that the Union had lost patience with what it described as repeated delays by the company.
“The ultimatum we have given them is very clear. For the past ten months, you have reneged and failed. They have between today and Friday to do everything under the sun to comply,” Mr Gbana warned.
The GMWU General Secretary also cautioned employers within the mining industry against practices that undermine workers’ welfare.
“Our demand to the industry is that employers should be wary. Any race-to-the-bottom policy, we will not allow it,” he emphasized.
Meanwhile, management of BCM Ghana Limited has indicated that steps are being taken to resolve the matter.
