Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has said all parties involved in the Bawku conflict must commit and obey the mediation report which was presented to President Mahama on December 16.
Speaking at the Jubilee House, Otumfuo Osei Tutu explained that he has informed all parties involved that his intervention was only a mediation exercise and not an arbitration.
For this reason, the Asantehene noted that he will not pronounce judgement on who was right or wrong but will only present the facts gathered during the mediation exercise.
“I’m here not to give a judgement as to who was wrong or right. I am here to present the facts as they are for us to have peace. It is almost about two and a half years since your predecessor invited me to mediate in a major conflict in Bawku that had become a major threat to the security of the nation.
“I report the facts as they are and it should be binding on all of us, whoever is involved,” Asantehene stated.
“Almost a year ago, the people of Ghana handed the mandate of the governance of Ghana to you Your Excellency and you wasted no time in reaffirming the mandate of the Bawku mediation.
“By the Grace of God, we are able to assemble here to present to Your Excellency the report of the mission you entrusted to us. We present the report for your kind consideration and whatever action you and your government consider appropriate,” he noted.
Otumfuo expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama and his predecessor, Nana Akufo-Addo for the confidence reposed in him and entrusting him to restore peace in Bawku.
On Monday, December 1, the Asantehene rounded off his mediation effort in the Bawku chieftaincy crisis with a face-to-face meeting between the contending parties at the Manhyia Palace Jubilee Hall, Kumasi.
Chief Tarana John Wuni Grumah, Paramount Chief of Tarana Traditional Area and spokesperson of the Naayiri, led a 30-member delegation to represent His Majesty Naa Bohugu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga, the Naayiri and Overlord of the Mamprugu and the Mamprusis while Naba Tambis Baalug Paramount Chief of Pusiga led the delegation representing the Bawku Naaba Zugraan Asigri Aburgrago Azoka II and the Kusasi people.
Cletus Avoka acted as spokesperson for the Kusasi delegation with Dr. Issah as spokesperson for the Naayiri and Mamprusis. Both delegations comprised of Chiefs, Lawyers, Academies, Opinion and Youth Leaders.
He urged the leaders to start preparing the minds of their supporters to be prepared to put an end permanently to violence and disorder in their communities.
