Two nurses and a security guard have been picked up by the Northern Regional Police Command to assist with investigations into an alleged baby theft.

The incident is alleged to have occurred at One Heart Hospital at Lamashegu, a suburb of Tamale in the Northern region.

The arrest followed a complaint had been lodged at the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Command on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at about 10:30 a.m.

According to police preliminary investigations, a woman, posing as a nurse, entered the hospital’s labour ward and took away a newborn baby boy under the pretext of administering an injection.

Two nurses identified as Abubakari Fatima Bintu and Grace Asiedu Mensah, are the suspects who were on duty at the time of the incident, as well as Abukari Iddi, the security guard on duty. The three have since been picked up to assist police with investigations.

Police say intelligence-led operations are currently underway to trace the missing baby and arrest any other persons connected to the case.

The Police Command has assured the public of its commitment to uncovering the truth and reuniting the baby with the family.
