The Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has reiterated the need for heightening of security and the wearing of name tags at all times at health facilities.

The Minister gave the admonition when he visited the Mamprobi Polyclinic following the child theft at the facility on Tuesday February 17.

The Minister is at the facility to assess the situation and engage hospital authorities, as well as gather first-hand information on the circumstances surrounding the incident.

His visit comes amid growing public concern over security at health facilities.

The Minister, in the company of some members of Parliament, held a closed-door meeting with Management of the hospital after being taken to the crime scene.

“It’s rather unfortunate. We have directed all facilities to have CCTVs and I have told them that the name tags should be removed at security not at the wards. This will help with identification and avert the swapping of babies.” He said.

The Health Minister assured that investigation is currently ongoing into the circumstances leading to the baby theft at the Mamprobi Polyclinic.

According to the Minister, whether someone will be held responsible, punished or sanctioned, will come from the findings of the investigation.

The Minister said this in response to questions on whether some health workers have been picked up for questioning.

It is recalled that a four-day-old baby was stolen from the facility on Tuesday February 17 at the blind side of the mother and health workers.

The baby has since been found and the perpetrator arrested to assist with investigations.
