The Ashanti Regional Police Command has raised concerns over commercial drivers charging inconsistent fares on the same routes, offering lower prices in the morning and higher rates in the evening.
Speaking on Ghanakoma morning show on Akoma 87.9fm in Kumasi with Sir John, on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, the Ashanti Regional Head of Police Public Affairs Unit, DSP Godwin Ahianyo, described the practice as unfair to commuters and warned that drivers who flout agreed-upon fares will face legal consequences.
He appealed to passengers to report drivers charging unapproved fares in the region.
“Some of our drivers charge different fees in the morning, and in the evening they charge another set of fees, and it’s a big worry,” he stated.
“I can assure you, after this meeting, any driver who does not listen to what we say here and goes out to charge more than they are supposed to take will be sent to court. We will take you there and make sure we remand you,” he cautioned.
He added that the enforcement measures, alongside other safety initiatives ahead of Christmas, are intended to ensure a secure, orderly and safe festive season for both residents and visitors.
Meanwhile, the Command has urged officers to wear their uniforms to 31st night activities to help cure crime during the period.
