Dr. Bryan Abbey Acheampong, the Member of Parliament for Abetifi and NPP 2028 flagbearer hopeful, says the party needs someone who will unite all factions going into the 2028 polls.

He says he will fully support anyone that emerges victorious at the January 31, 2026 polls, including the former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Dr. Acheampong believes unity is crucial to the NPP’s chances in the 2028 elections, stressing that he bears no resentment with anyone and over the outcome of the upcoming presidential primary.

He explained on Channel One TV on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, that the commitment was made once they signed a document to that effect.

“We need a unifier. I will support him [Bawumia], 100%. I signed a document to that effect,” he stated.

He added that he intends unifying the party front after the primary, stressing the need to abate the culture of insults in the NPP.

Dr. Acheampong further disclosed that during a recent media engagement, one of the presidential aspirants failed to clearly indicate whether he would support Dr. Bawumia if he wins the primary.

“I assured delegates that I will restore discipline in our party. There should be discipline, and someone must drive it, and I intend to,” he said.

The former Minister of Agriculture further averred that the grassroots will be the bedrock of his campaign, should he become the flagbearer, which will be all inclusive with adequate logistical support reaching the polling stations.

“I intend to run a campaign in which everybody is relevant and becomes part of it. I will ensure resources get to the polling stations,” Dr. Acheampong noted.

Dr. Acheampong, who also served as Minister of Defence under President Akufo-Addo, noted that, in his quest to address the development of the country, “we need bold, decisive leadership, with someone who has gone through the mill of business and understands what it takes to create jobs, generate revenue and expand infrastructure. People must be more productive than we’re today.”

It’ll take NPP 16 years to win power again if we continuously present Bawumia as flagbearer – Bryan Acheampong
