The Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC) has rejected claims that the Nyinahin bauxite concession is being granted to businessman, Ibrahim Mahama.
In a statement signed and issued by the Head of Public Affairs and Communications Manager, Priscilla Hemans, on Thursday, December 25, 2025, it said the Corporation has no such plans to grant the lease to the brother of the President.
“The Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC) has taken note of a publication claiming that the Government of Ghana intends to grant bauxite concessions in Nyinahin to Mr. Ibrahim Mahama.
“GIADEC unequivocally refutes this allegation and states for the avoidance of
doubt that no such plan exists,” portions of the statement contained.
The statement continued that “under the vision of His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama to reposition Ghana to fully benefit from its natural resources, approval was given for GIADEC to hold leases over all known bauxite reserves in the country.
“This was done to give GIADEC a strong footing to carry out its mandate and to attract the right investments and partnerships for the sector.”
Currently, GIADEC has obtained six mining leases, including the Nyinahim concession, which the statement said is currently before the House of legislature for approval.
“In line with this Executive approval, in June 2025, GIADEC obtained six (6) mining leases over bauxite concessions including the Nyinahin concessions. These leases are currently before Parliament for ratification.”
It further explained that bauxite concessions, under the current government policy, remain with GIADEC as the leaseholder, with measures in place to ensure the convention doesn’t change beyond the current administration.
The statement urged the public to treat such claims as granting the concession to certain individuals as false, and with all the contempt it deserves.
“Any publication suggesting that the Government plans to grant bauxite concessions to any individual is false and should be treated as such.”
