Naa Volkur Nyuor Tang IV, Chief of Eremon Divisional area in the Lawra Traditional area, has urged farmers to adopt best practices to improve land fertility and preserve the environment.

Speaking at the 2025 Senkaa Festival, themed “A Blessed Arable Land- Celebrating our Agricultural Heritage,” he emphasized the importance of responsible farming methods.

The Chief highlighted the significance of groundnut, the crop the festival is named after, as a major economic backbone for the community.
He also appealed for infrastructure development, including roads, markets, electricity, and healthcare facilities, to boost economic growth and wellbeing.

Bede A. Ziedeng, Member of Parliament for Lawra Constituency, highlighted the festival’s importance as a homecoming event, fostering interaction and cooperation among community members.

He commended the Eremon Youth and Development Association for their leadership in driving development initiatives and urged citizens to support their efforts.


The festival also provided an opportunity for Ziedeng to share his achievements and plans for the constituency, including support for students, education infrastructure, healthcare, roads, energy, and water and sanitation projects.

The MP announced plans to construct a new JHS block and rehabilitate an existing one in Eremon Tangzu, and support the Eremon Health Centre with GH¢45,000.


On his part, Paramount Chief of the Lawra Traditional Area, Naa Puowelle Karbo III, expressed worry about the prolonged funerals performance and the perceived expensive bride price in the area.

About the “Senkaa” Festival

The Eremon Senkaa Festival is celebrated annually usually the last Sunday of every year.

Senkaa means ground nuts. Groundnut is a major cash crop for the indigen of Eremon in the Lawra municipality of the Upper west Region.
The festival, which is now in its 11th year, is a significant event where the community thanks the Almighty for the harvest and shares ideas on development.
