The Member of Parliament for Krowor and Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has hosted hundreds of vulnerable individuals, including aged persons, widows, orphans, children and persons living with disabilities from across the constituency as part of activities marking the festive season.
Speaking at the event, she said the engagement was aimed at connecting with vulnerable groups and to reaffirm government’s commitment to their protection and development through social protection programmes.
In Ghana, vulnerable populations such as the aged, widows, orphans and persons with disabilities continue to face challenges including poverty, economic insecurity, limited access to healthcare, social isolation, and stigma.
These challenges underscore the need for stronger support systems and sustained social protection policies. The event hosted in her constituency aimed to spread festive cheer and highlight the government’s commitment to supporting these groups, who face significant challenges like poverty, stigma, and limited access to healthcare and social services.

Beneficiaries were brought together from various communities, providing a safe and inclusive space for interaction, celebration and social support.
‘‘I engage them beyond the activities. Being the sector minister as well, with the persons with disability, I make sure the Assembly attends to their need and their funds are released to them regularly and just now at the party, the MCE informed me about their grant and it has been given to them.
Before I engage them at the constituency level I have already engaged those outside. I have already met with the kayayes and children as well as other vulnerable groups. So I will continue to encourage them to be hopeful. Wherever I go I look out for them because this is a ministry that cares for the vulnerable. ’’ She assured.

The NDC Constituency Chairman for Krowor, Benjamin Kwame Danso, also reaffirmed the party’s commitment to meeting constituents’ needs.
‘‘I want to thank the constituents for the support they keep giving us. The MP and MCE who have held the front very well for us. I see that the contractor has moved back to the project site at the Nungua barrier. It is to assure them that more developments will be happening in the constituency, now the traffic has reduced, and it only brings a lot of relief to the people and so they should be rest assured. They won’t regret voting for the NDC.’’ He said.
The Minister earlier hosted a separate gathering for hundreds of children in the constituency treating them to food, music and games, promoting joy, unity and child welfare.
