There is some relief for motorists and commuters following the partial opening of the Nungua Barrier stretch of the Accra–Tema Beach Road, aimed at easing the long-standing traffic burden on the corridor.
During a visit to the project site, our news team observed improved traffic flow as sections of the road were reopened, reducing diversions that had worsened congestion.
The three-tier interchange, a key component of the Beach Road Expansion Project, had stalled for months, making movement on the stretch unbearable.
Heavy traffic, poor road conditions, and frequent flooding forced many drivers to take longer alternative routes, increasing transport costs and commuter frustration.

For commercial drivers, and commuters, being granted the access brings hope.
“Before this, I spent hours stuck here every day. Now at least we can move and work, it wasn’t easy. I am sure with the way they are going, they should be done by next year” Nana Kwame a taxi driver said.

A commuter, Jacob would also want the project completed to reduce the dust pollution in the area. “Now the traffic is down and much better. You can see that work is ongoing but the authorities should hurry so that the dust too can reduce. It’s too much’’ he lamented.

The Member of Parliament for the area, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has assured constituents that all developmental projects initiated in the constituency, including the interchange, will be completed to improve livelihoods and economic activity.

“As we speak, his excellency has made the Roads Minister to allow the contractor to come back on site so you realize that gradually we are opening up the road and that will bring a lot of relief for all of us in Krowor,’’. she noted.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Chief Executive, Ing. Paul Afotey Quaye, has reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to addressing residents’ pressing needs, including the perennial water challenges affecting parts of the municipality.

“All persons who ply Ashaiman, Tema to the central business district, it’s come as a relief. As an assembly what we are trying to do is to complement the engineering works with efforts by the MTTD and so in peak hours, we often have them stationed there to direct traffic and to see to the work, the water situation too, its being worked on,’’ he intimated.
Residents are hopeful that the renewed progress on the road project will be sustained, bringing lasting relief to commuters and boosting business activities along the busy Accra Tema corridor.
