The Director-General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Kwesi Afreh Biney has underscored the post-retirement relevance of his outfit.
He said although SSNIT may seem irrelevant when one is working, the Trust offers a lifeline during retirement.
“The young people need to know that SSNIT guarantees you income in your retirement,” he pointed out.
My Biney made this remark while speaking on Business Focus on TV3, Monday, January 12, 2026, as part of efforts to boost confidence in the national pension system.
He assured that, “SSNIT is reliable and that is the value the young people need to know.”
The SSNIT boss also revealed that the youngest beneficiary currently receiving payments under the scheme is 32 years old, explaining that contributors who become permanently incapacitated are eligible for pensions.
He concluded, “We want to move from a force of compliance to a service-oriented organisation,” adding that “improving the scheme’s value proposition would make it more appealing, especially to the youth.”
His comments follow SSNIT’s announcement of a 10 per cent increase in monthly pensions for 261,920 pensioners on its payroll as of December 31, 2025.
