Legendary Black Stars winger Osei Kofi, now Rev. Osei Kofi, had admitted he was not aware of his record of scoring in five consecutive Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) matches until it came out recently.

“For 57 years, that is what surprises me,” he said.

“So, if this had not come out, CAF would not have paid me tribute when I have such a record?”

In an interview on Dan Kweku Yeboah TV, Rev Osei Kofi confessed: “I would be a liar if I said I knew about this and because of all this, if you compare someone to me, it is impossible.”

The former Asante Kotoko forward’s record was set in the 1968 AFCON hosted by Ethiopia. He had scored in three consecutive games in the previous tournament, in 1965, and scored in the first three games of the 1968 edition.

For him, with the current record brought to bear, researchers must dig into other records.

He said, for instance, that he gave assists for every goal scored by the Black Stars in the 1965 edition.

After scoring in Morocco’s run into the semi-finals, Diaz failed to find the back of the net against the Super Eagles on Wednesday as that game ended goalless.

He will, however, make it six out of seven matches at a single AFCON if he scores in the final against Senegal on Sunday.
