A new twist has emerged following the controversial decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Appeals Board to award the AFCON title to Morocco, with legal opinion now suggesting Senegal could overturn the ruling.

Ghanaian lawyer John Kwame Quayson has strongly criticized the Appeals Board’s interpretation of Articles 82-84 of the CAF AFCON regulations, arguing that the body misinterpreted and misapplied the rule in reaching its final decision.

According to Mr Quayson, the legal flaws in the ruling open the door for Senegal to challenge the outcome at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), the highest authority in global sports dispute resolution.

In an interview on Agoro Fie on Onua TV on Wednesday, March 18, he noted that Senegal has a very strong case if the matter is pursued at CAS, insisting that the West African nation could successfully argue that due process and regulatory interpretation were not properly followed by CAF.

The development is expected to intensify debate across African football, with fans and analysts closely watching whether Senegal will proceed with a formal appeal.

If the case reaches CAS, it could set a major precedent for how CAF regulations are interpreted and enforced in future tournaments.

For now, the AFCON controversy remains unresolved, with the possibility of a dramatic legal battle still looming.
