Relief is on the way for commuters traveling between Busua and Dixcove as the long-abandoned bridge connecting these two communities is finally getting a new lease on life, with completion expected by the end of January 2026.
For more than sixteen years, residents of Busua and Dixcove in the Ahanta West Municipality of the Western Region have lived with unfulfilled promises and abandoned plans over the reconstruction of the Busua Bridge.
The bridge, a vital but long-neglected link between the coastal communities of Busua and Dixcove, deteriorated over the years despite repeated political assurances. Its deplorable condition posed serious risks to commuters and severely disrupted the transportation of goods and services, affecting the daily lives and economic activities of residents.
The situation had been a major source of frustration, particularly for fisherfolk and farmers who depend heavily on the route to transport their produce and access nearby communities.
However, a visit to the construction site by our News Team revealed significant progress, with the rapid pace of work drawing commendation from residents.
“This bridge has been a major problem for us for years. We are grateful that it is finally being constructed. When completed, it will help us a lot,” said Francis Kwofie.
Allnice Nfordjoe Mawukpomo, an Environmental Health Officer, also highlighted the importance of the project. “Our work requires us to move from one community to another. This bridge will help us greatly. We are, however, appealing for its early completion because for now, we have to walk through the river to cross,” she noted.
The Operations Director of Ackben Enterprise, the contractor for the project, Engineer Michael Kojo Fynn, disclosed that the bridge is about 70 percent complete and assured residents that the project would be completed by the end of January.
“The bridge is 70 percent completed, and the expected completion date is the end of January. We assure residents that work will be completed soon to allow for commissioning,” he emphasized.
In an exclusive interview with Connect News, the Municipal Chief Executive for Ahanta West, Ing. Ebenezer Kofi Aidoo, stated that the Assembly is committed to addressing issues within its mandate, including the Busua Bridge, while referring matters beyond its capacity to the appropriate ministries.
Upon completion, the Busua Bridge is expected to improve transportation, enhance safety, and boost local economic activities, bringing long-awaited relief to residents and commuters in the area.
