Founder and General Overseer of the Action Chapel International Ministry, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams has advised men against soliciting funds to enable them have lavish weddings.

The religious leader explained that marriage is only reserved for responsible men and begging for money to fund marriage makes one irresponsible and an indication that they are not prepared to tie the knot.

In an interview on TV3’s New Day, Friday, January 23, 2026, he questioned how a man will be able to cater for his family after marriage if he borrowed money or sought financial assistance for the wedding ceremony.

Duncan-Williams said it takes responsibility for a man to marry a woman not just the love for each other.

“It is still wrong because you are still not a man. You are not responsible. How are you going to take care of the woman after the marriage? Are you still going to go to all these friends and family to be asking for money when she gets pregnant and she’s throwing up and she goes to hospital, who pays the bills are you going to go back to your family?

“You are not responsible, you are not ready. So it is not just about you love the person you have to be responsible,” he stated.

He further emphasised that the practice of relatives always contributing to the cost of wedding ceremonies for couples is causing more harm than good to the youth, noting that this does not instill a sense of responsibility in them.

“And this kind of mentality and attitude in our society, ‘oh let’s help them’, we are not doing justice to future generations, we are making them irresponsible. They must take responsibility, they have to save for the child coming, the pregnancy, the school fees etc,” he stressed.
