The Drug Law Enforcement Unit of the Ghana Police Service in Ashanti Region has destroyed a large quantity of seized narcotic substance as part of efforts to crackdown on the illegal drug trade in the country.
The exercise, which was carried out under strict security supervision, involved consignments of suspected cannabis, tramadol and other illegal drugs that were intercepted during various anti-narcotics operations across different parts of the region.
The destruction, according to the police, was conducted in accordance with legal and environmental safety procedures, after the substances were tendered in court and orders were granted for their disposal.
Officials say the move is aimed at preventing the drugs from finding their way back into circulation, while sending a strong signal to individuals involved in drug trafficking and abuse.

The Police noted that the Narcotics Division will continue intelligence-led operations to arrest suspects, seize illicit drugs, and ensure that offenders are dealt with according to the law.

“Those involved in drug dealing must stop. We will pursue and arrest them wherever they operate, and they will be made to face the law”, the regional drug law enforcement unit commander,” Frazer Nutakor cautioned.

The Ghana Police Service has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding public health and safety, especially among the youth, through sustained enforcement and public education.
“We believe that it is drug use that is leading these youth into criminal activities. So we are committed to deal with it”, Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Arthur Osei Akoto emphasized.

They police is also calling on the public to support the fight against drug abuse by providing timely information on suspected drug-related activities within their communities.
