The Overlord of Gonja Kingdom, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, has launched an education fund.

The initiative targets critical fields like medicine, engineering, law, and ICT, aiming to produce skilled, community-focused professionals rooted in Gonja culture.

The Bii-Kunuto Education Fund is making waves. Since 2023, it has supported over 60 students with over GHS 300,000 in scholarships, helping them study at top institutions like Kwame Nkrumah University Science and Technology University of Ghana, University of Coast, University of Education Winneba, Tamale Technical University, and Nursing Training Colleges in Damongo and Kpembe.

Three students from Gonja land are currently studying in China on full international scholarships, two in medicine and one in dentistry.

The Bii-Kunuto Education Fund goes beyond scholarships. It launched a Mentorship and Career Grooming Program targeting bright SHS students.

The program guides them from high school to tertiary education and into their careers, offering guidance, exposure, and discipline to help them stay on track.

The Bii-Kunuto Education Fund’s impact is clear, but with Gonja’s vast land and growing demand, they need to scale up.

The Bii-Kunuto Education Fund needs support to reach more students in the Savannah Region.

To boost funding, they are hosting a fundraising event with government appointees from Gonja land with various donation to support the fund.

The fund is also building a new Guidance and Counselling Unit at Damongo Senior High School.

The Regional Minister for the Savannah Region Salisu Be-Awuribe, speaking at the event cited how crucial the fund is.

“It is a game changer and it will impact more generation,” he said.

The governor of the Bank of Ghana Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama lauded the initiative, emphasizing the long-term impact the fund will make.

The Minister of Energy Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor who is the leader of all government appointees from Gonja committed to support the education initiative.

He said it is a smart investment in human capital that will pay off big time in the long run.

Deputy Education Minister Dr. Clement Abas Apaak says the Bii-Kunuto Education Fund belongs to the community.

“Supporting it isn’t charity it’s investing in people, culture, and Gonjaland’s future,” he said.
