A fire outbreak at Sefwi Adjoafua in the Western North region has burnt a 70-year-old man, Kwasi Nkansah, to death, destroying a two-bedroom house in the process.
This was confirmed by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in a Facebook post on Monday, February 16, 2026, stating that the blaze destroyed the two-bedroom, one-kitchen home.
According to the Service, firefighters had to battle heavy rainfall and poor road conditions in responding to the incident, but managed to contain the fire and prevented it from spreading to nearby structures.
Meanwhile, the cause of the fire is yet to be established. Residents who earlier rushed to the scene could not save the old man who had been consumed by the fire.
The Service has urged the public to prioritise fire safety measures, particularly by supervising vulnerable persons, practising basic fire prevention habits, and promptly reporting emergencies to authorities.
“Stay safe: supervise the vulnerable, practise fire safety, and report emergencies immediately,” it advised.
