The Black Stars could be playing Wales in what will be a fourth preparatory match ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Appearing before a parliamentary committee, the Minister of Sports and Recreation hinted that negotiations are advanced to play the Welsh national team before the Mexico friendly in May.

“We are in negotiations with Wales to also play against their national team and then we will have another one against Mexico,” Kofi Iddie Adams disclosed on Thursday, February 26.

The Mexico friendly has already been announced by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

That announcement came after the nation’s football-governing body announced that two friendlies have been scheduled for the team in March.

The first, on Friday, March 27, will be against Austria, while the second will be against Germany on Monday, March 30.

The GFA and the Football Association of Wales (FAW) have had a cordial relationship recently with some four local coaches embarking on a trip to the European country for a UEFA License B Coaching Course.

Wales will be playing in the European play-offs in March for a place at the FIFA World Cup in June-July. They will face Bosnia and Herzegovina before facing off with the winner of the Italy-Northern Ireland tie for the ticket.

Ghana are set to play in their fifth World Cup, kicking off their Group L campaign at the mundial on Wednesday, June 17 against Panama before later taking on England, June 23, and Croatia, June 27.
