The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested 38 suspected illegal miners for mining on a palm plantation at Ntronang in the Birem North District of the Eastern Region.
All suspects are currently in Police custody assisting with investigations.
In a statement, the Eastern South Public Relations Officer, David Fianko-Okyere, said the suspects will be arraigned before court on Monday, March 2, 2026.

Among those arrested are nine juveniles. 21 of the suspects are Ghanaians, while 17 are Burkinabes.
Exhibits retrieved from them include water pumping machines and power plants.

The police also destroyed their makeshift shelters and water hoses at the site.

The fight against illegal mining continues to face challenges as the Police and NAIMOS intensify efforts to clamp down on the activities.
