President John Dramani Mahama has said that he has signed the 24 Hour Economy Authority Bill into law.

He says a 24 Hour Economy will create jobs and also boost the economy.

“I have assented to the 24 Hour Economy bill, and it has now become law… This historic reform will boost productivity,” he said in his address to the nation on the 69th Independence Day celebration at the seat of government on Friday.

Parliament officially passed the 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill, 2025, a flagship policy of the John Mahama administration, on Friday, February 6, 2026.

The objective of the Bill is to establish the 24-Hour Economy Authority to implement the 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Programme.

The 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Programme seeks to address longstanding structural issues within the productive economy of the country.

It further seeks to reduce the dependence of the country on exporting relatively low-value raw materials and reliance on costly imported finished and intermediate goods.

The Authority is expected to ensure the integrated, sustainable transformation of national systems for economic production, supply chain, marketing and labour power development.

This year’s anniversary is themed ‘Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope’.

Members of the diplomatic corps, the clergy, traditional leaders and other dignitaries participated in the event.

Regarding the Women’s Development Bank, President Mahama announced that the government is in the final stage of its creation.

“We are in the final stages of setting up the Women’s Development Bank,” he said.

He stated that the bank will ensure women-led businesses access to financing and mentorship.
