A 12-year-old girl, Vida Kwarteng, has allegedly been assaulted by her mother after selling plantain they harvested from the farm, an incident that has sparked concern among relatives and residents in the community.
The incident happened at Abrabra in the Sefwi-Wiawso municipality on March 8.
According to the victim, the incident occurred shortly after she and her mother, Diana Kwarteng, returned home from the farm. Vida said she informed her mother of her intention to sell some of the plantain but did not receive any response.
She explained that she later went ahead to sell the plantain for GH₵30 and handed the money over to her mother upon returning home.

However, she alleges that her mother became angry and beat her severely, despite giving her the money from the sale.
The incident has since drawn the attention of family members who say they are worried about the safety and wellbeing of the child.
Speaking on the matter, the girl’s uncle said the family has officially lodged a complaint with the police and is hoping the law will take its course to ensure justice for the girl.

Meanwhile, police are yet to make any arrest in connection with the alleged assault.
Residents in the area have also expressed concern over the incident, calling for stronger protection for children and urging parents and guardians to resolve issues involving minors without resorting to violence while investigations continue.
